PHOENIX – Democratic Representative Tom O’Halleran, probably the most sensitive official in Arizona’s nine-man congressional delegation, was defeated after a daring Republican challenge.
Businessman and former Navy Seal Eli Crane defeated the three-term election on Thursday because more votes counted. Crane selected to redistribute it, making it easy to liquidate O’Halleran.
Crane will now represent the sprawling Second Congressional District, which covers much of Northeast Arizona and descends south to the northern suburbs of Tucson. Redistribution has transformed the neighborhood into one which strongly favors the GOP, attracting the Prescott area.
O’Halleran relied on his moderate voting result, name ID, and consistent work throughout the district, which incorporates the Navajo Nation, to maintain seated.
Crane had the backing of former President Donald Trump and a latest Republican advantage within the constituency to his advantage.
Along with O’Hallerana constituency, three of the nine seats in Arizona’s Congress took part within the elections, which ended on Tuesday, two of that are currently Democrats and just one Republican. Everyone was too early to call.
