When SoFaygo’s 2019 breakthrough hit, “Knock Knock,” went viral on social media, the Atlanta rapper got immediately propelled into superstardom, receiving love from artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Gunna, and proved to be an ideal fit for Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack label. Months of buildup and an EP (B4pink) later, Pink Heartz has finally arrived. “Having a pink heart just means wearing your heart in your sleeve, being yourself completely all the best way, no what people saying or what these people over here doing, you only being you throughout every little thing,” SoFaygo tells Apple Music. “I feel that’s the definition of me. That’s who I’m. No matter all of the noise, I’m continuing to stay myself and continuing to do music.”
The Up Next artist has looked as if it would create his lane throughout the genre, mixing trap and melody into his unique sound, which could be heard throughout the 16-track project. Pink Heartz takes listeners on a journey into among the things that SoFaygo must cope with on account of his newfound fame, akin to the high that comes from being within the highlight (“Perpetually”), jealousy from so-called friends (“Greed,” “Price”), and spiraling emotions (“Transparency”).
He also enlists a few of hip-hop’s heavyweights and contemporary hitmakers, adding an additional layer to his sound. On “Take Off,” which features DJ Khaled and Gunna and production from Pharrell, SoFaygo talks in regards to the naysayers who didn’t imagine in his dream. “Pharrell’s such a cool dude,” he says. “He’s so chill and just right down to earth. Working with him, it was really easy. It was easy in a way, like he made me feel comfortable within the atmosphere.” Other guests include Lil Uzi Vert, who spits just a few bars on “Stay Awake”; labelmate Don Toliver on the hypnotic “Slip”; and Ken Carson on the energetic closer, “Hell Yeah.”
