French phenom Victor Wembanyama has taken the NBA by storm, and he hasn’t even played a single minute yet within the league for the San Antonio Spurs, who drafted him No. 1 overall in Thursday’s NBA Draft.
With Wembanyama now officially an NBA player and set to be led by legendary head coach Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, the talk rages on about what he can do for the Spurs in his rookie season.
Obviously, there shall be an adjustment period for the 19-year-old as he gets used to the talent level and form of play on the NBA stage, but many imagine he’ll achieve success right out of the gate throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
Former NBA player and current analyst for ESPN, Kendrick Perkins, believes Wembanyama shall be an All-Star in his first season and can lead the Spurs to the Play-in Tournament via NBA on ESPN.

Although it could be protected to assume that Wembanyama can have plenty of success in his first season with the Spurs, the 7’5″ superstar making the All-Star Game in his first season is likely to be a little bit of a stretch, especially considering all of the talent within the Western Conference.
Although it looks like a stretch, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Wembanyama live as much as or exceed expectations throughout the 2023-24 NBA season and grow to be the talk of the league with the likes of Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokoumpo.
Only time will tell how Wembanyama does on this level, and if he may be the superstar everyone seems to imagine he’s destined to grow to be.
