ABC, CBS GUSH Over ‘Historic’ Speaker Pelosi Who Fought With Trump

With the news Thursday that Speaker Nancy Pelosi might be stepping down from Democratic House leadership, ABC’s World News Tonight and CBS Evening News hung out gushing over Pelosi’s “historic” tenure as speaker of the House and highlighted her publicized fights with former President Trump and her infamous temper tantrum after his 2020 State of the Union address where she tore up a replica of his address in anger. 

On ABC, Capitol Hill correspondent Rachel Scott dramatically announced Pelosi’s “historic passing of the torch.” Scott could barely contain herself when she drooled that “Pelosi is a singular figure in American history.”

Scott even praised Pelosi’s petulant fights with former President Trump: “Pelosi worked with 4 Presidents, often going toe to toe with Donald Trump.”  

“President Biden today calling her essentially the most consequential Speaker of the House in our history,” Scott proclaimed, reading from Biden’s statement: “Due to Nancy Pelosi, the lives of tens of millions and tens of millions of Americans are higher, even in districts represented by Republicans who voted against her bills and too often vilified her. Pelosi’s colleagues cheering as she listed her accomplishments.”

Over on CBS Evening News, congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane took a break from hyperventilating over the January 6 riots to fangirl over Pelosi. Reporting on Pelosi’s decision to step down, he claimed, “It’s an historic announcement but additionally one with a profound, immediate impact.”

“With Republicans set to take control of the U.S. House in January, Nancy Pelosi, the outsized political force for a generation, said it was time for her to step back,” MacFarlane said. 

He then turned to whining in regards to the incoming Republican House majority and that House Democrats will “need to contend with a Republican majority which plans to aggressively investigate the Biden administration including what they see is a politicized Justice Department in addition to the President’s family.”  

Very like ABC’s Scott, MacFarlane got weak knees over Pelosi’s juvenile fights with former President Donald Trump: “She also famously clashed with Donald Trump. Once mocking his State of the Union address and tearing up his speech to the delight of fellow Democrats.” 

Also, note how he referred to him as Donald Trump and never “former President Trump” or “then-President Trump.” 

MacFarlane ended his embarrassing report by crying in regards to the absence of a selected GOP leader: “Republican leader Kevin McCarthy who’s looking for to be the following speaker of the home and who’s regularly clashed with Pelosi was not within the chamber as Pelosi gave her remarks today.”
