OAKLAND – A woman died at the scene of a shooting on Sunday in the North Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 8 p.m., police responded to reports of a possible shooting after learning of ShotSpotter activation at block 450 on 40th Street, west of Telegraph Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a woman on the ground, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.
Despite the life-saving measures provided by police officers and paramedics, the woman was presumed dead on the spot.
Her identity was not available pending notification to her closest relatives by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Office. The police did not provide any description of the suspect or the vehicle.
The homicide is the 110th homicide tracked by Oakland Police this year after death shooting in East Oakland a week ago. The California Highway Patrol also investigated five homicides on Oakland Highways. Last year, Oakland police investigated at least 119 homicides in the city at this time.
