Police on Sunday found the remains of a young mother who had disappeared from her home in Simi Valley last week and her ex-husband was arrested as a prime suspect.

As reported by the Simi Valley Police Department, detectives found the body of 25-year-old Rachel Castillo in a remote location in Antelope Valley.

Castillo’s ex-husband, a 25-year-old resident of Hawthorne Zarbab Ali, was arrested at his parents’ home in Victorville in connection with her death, police said press release.

“This investigation has evolved rapidly in the last few days,” police said. “This case is still under investigation and some details cannot be disclosed for legal and investigative reasons.”

Castillo disappeared on Thursday, leaving behind her keys, phone, car and “a significant amount of blood,” police said. Concerned relatives called authorities that evening after her sister discovered a disturbing scene in an apartment they shared on Country Club Drive.

Castillo was last seen by her sister Emily at 9:30 am Thursday in the apartment where they lived with Castillo’s two sons, ages 2 and 5.

Her mother, Robyn Castillo, said the boys’ father came for them in the morning and that her daughter was to spend the day working from home at her job as a health care navigator at a social welfare agency. When Emily Castillo came home around 8:30 PM on Thursday, her sister was gone and there was a lot of blood in the house.

On Sunday night, Robyn Castillo wrote on her Facebook page that her daughter’s body had been found and that the suspect was in custody.

“Please don’t post anything on this in the comments,” she wrote. “I prefer to remember my daughter’s good points and celebrate her beautiful life.”

Castillo attended his Masters in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University’s online program with the intention of becoming a marriage and family therapist.
