Crown Point Mayor discusses recent business moves at Tuesday Talks – Chicago Tribune

At a recent Tuesday Talks meeting, Crown Point Mayor Peter Land spoke about successes and challenges for town’s community.

“People really need to return here,” Land said.

He spotlighted recent Crown Point businesses including Batting Champs, with indoor batting cages; Taco Depot; and the Outward Olive, which features different olive oils for tasting.

On the primary Tuesday of every month the Crown Point Mayor Land meets with the community to debate recent things happening in town at different venues.

Dave Benson, City of Crown Point Clerk Treasurer, said his offices have moved to Bulldog Park and the primary floor has been remodeled. The Clerk Treasurer’s Office was relocated to Bulldog Park in 2020.

“We welcome people to see the renovations,” Benson said.

Land spoke concerning the Crown Point Fire Department and its recent $2.6 Million FEMA grant to rent seven recent firefighters. Land said town will probably be working on the method and is seeking to hire within the early a part of 2023.

As a relief to those that are stair-challenged, Land said town applied for a grant to place an elevator in City Hall. Without delay, people headed to the mayor’s office must take the steps.

Phase certainly one of the Sauerman Woods Improvement Project began in mid-September and can last into 2023. Phase two will begin in 2023. When it’s complete, residents will have the ability to walk around a recent pond, rent a paddle boat or go fishing at Sauerman Woods, positioned at 1000 E. South St.

For Phase Two of the Sauerman Woods project, the Mayor is considering having community forums for input into the park. Land said town is adding eight Recreational Vehicle stalls at Sauerman Woods so people attending events can stay on the park.

“We would like this place to be a destination,” Land said.

The following Tuesday Talks will probably be at 6 p.m. on December 6 at Sip Coffee House, 11 N. Court Street in Crown Point, .
